 How Not To Succeed:
Just like you watch the news (or avoid it), I watch the news and/or avoid it. Just as I have had failed relationships and that I have ignored all the red flags in order to commingle with the opposite sex, you have as well. Just as I have had a few past sour business relationships or that I have failed at one task or another, so too have you. I say all of that to say, not just that you and I are similar in so many ways, but more importantly that you and I have learned HOW NOT TO SUCCEED. We have stumbled and we’ve fallen enough to know the red flags, the loopholes, the traps and the smoke and mirrors.

 

You might say that we can only handle what God gives us. Others might say that we attract these experiences. And still others would say that every action gets a reaction…. or that we reap what we sow. But beyond all the cliches, the truth is that we have plenty of experiences to show us the wrong way to go about business, relationships and a rich and rewarding life. It seems as if we get reminders weekly when we watch the news, our friends or when we individually experience failure. And therein lies the blueprint and the answers as to how not to proceed. You can’t win by shortcuts, you can’t win by cheating, you can’t win by a get-rich-quick scheme, and quite frankly you cannot win by getting over on other people.

Sure, all of this amounts to the choices that we make in life, but I’m thinking that with the amount of access to information we have today, there should be no excuse and the roadmap should be crystal clear for you to sidestep the pitfalls of life.

That’s why when we see people stumble or fall we shake our heads and we know inherently that they should’ve known better. Yes, there are isolated situations that introduce new information and sometimes we are ill-prepared for those encounters that come our way. But I believe that deep down our conscious minds have a measure of “common sense” that tell us yes or no, right or wrong when making a decision.

I recently wanted to back away from the news and information that I get minute to minute. I recognize how there is an influx of violent encounters and mortally tragic stories that are fed to us. But I simply cannot turn my back on information that fuels my own perceptions and calls up the urgency for advice to those I touch daily. And every time one of these encounters rears is its ugly head I cannot help but to troubleshoot and find the solution even after the fact. Maybe this is to help you, or maybe it is for my own sanity. Because if I am the skilled thinker and if I remain conscious and cautious and always on my toes, then I too would continue to avoid the pitfalls and minefields of life. No, we don’t know it all but we get better and better every waking moment. I hope you continue to take this ride with me and learn and grow and mature and stay safe. #Relentless

WILL YOU DIE TOMORROW?

I hate to say this but many of us are scheduled to die tomorrow. According to CNN details (http://edition.cnn.com/2005/BUSINESS/02/03/monday.pressure/) the American Journal of Hypertension showed that many workers suffer a significant increase in blood pressure as they return to the office after the weekend. Now, its true that facts and figures are only as valid as the process and person’s delivering it, but hey… lets cut the crap and RECOGNIZE that many people die on Monday. They are heading back into the stressful, challenging and dead-end lives they’ve been living.

But, here’s the greater truth; most of our physical ailments and challenges are all controlled, fueled or even prevented mentally; Yes, you read correctly all of it (within reason) is controlled by our minds. You’ve heard the term PMA/positive mental attitude. Some of you heard it some time ago and forgot it. Others heard it, exercised it, and somehow didn’t fully adopt it in your lifestyle. I’m one of those; people who have been side-tracked and don’t necessarily keep with that as a fundamental.

Well positive mental attitude has helped many of us who have overcome the toughest of times. The bottom line, it’s all in your mind.

So then what is holding you back? What is so challenging and so stressful and so perilous that you are stuck? What is the weight on your shoulders that is so heavy on your body that you are about to collapse? Is it as bad as living in a cave? Is it as bad as being stuck on a mountaintop with below freezing weather conditions? Is it as bad as growing up with no arms and no legs? My friend, I want to challenge you and remind you that you know not what true challenges are. There’s an old saying: “Before you accuse, criticize, and abuse- walk a mile in my shoes” But aren’t so many of us criticizing, abusing, condemning and complaining about ourselves? Aren’t we doing this without putting things into true perspective?
What about: “I was sad because I had no shoes until I met a man that had no feet”? And I’m sure many of you have seen the story about Nick Vujicic, born without arms or legs.

Family, if it takes reciting and remembering and recalling quotes like these and stories like these to remind us that we are human, that we make mistakes, and that we DO survive through the toughest of times, then so be it. Keep this stuff on your cellphones, iPods and computers so that you always have access.

I keep many off the world’s greatest motivational speakers at the touch of a fingertip. I keep the best of Mike Tyson on standby. There are so many motivational forms of content we ALL have access to; content we no longer need to pay for. So, if you aren’t already using it, WHY NOT???
Whatever it takes to remind us that we are incredible beings and that we have the potential to experience great joy and great successes despite the greatest of odds…reminders that we are human, that we make mistakes and that we are survivors, despite tragedy and eminent peril, then lets absorb all of it. We did not show up here to merely exist. We excel, we overcome, we succeed and WE PROSPER.
Folks do what you need to do to get what you need, to get what you need, to live the life you want to live. #Relentless

 

HASTEFUL SUCCESS IS NOT SUCCESS AT ALL

Games_CamilleLeblancBazinetathleteprofile_rotatorThe haste and the desperation that you execute in your quest for greatness is but an albatross that is holding you back from your sought-after achievement, and your success, (or lack thereof), will be in exact proportion to the calm and patience that you exercise in getting there. Take the necessary steps to remain driven, and to master your craft and allow the chips fall where they may. That is not to say you should not be a risk-taker or that you should not work hard towards your goals. It just means that there is a price to pay for success. Time, experience, hardships, challenges, hurdles, distress, pain, stress and even loss & panic can be a part of the price that you pay in route to your desired success.

The good news is, once you have experienced all of these various levels of growth, you then assume a sense of comfort and knowing and belief and faith in your skill set.

Coincidently, in your rise to greatness you will accumulate a measure of acknowledgment and respect from others who admire your work. Those admirers can serve as your energy, your motivation as well as the fire up under your ass that reminds you of who you are, how far you’ve come and where are you must arrive.

So, today not tomorrow, next week, next year or when you finish a 4-year college program; but today recognize the steps that it takes to be a winner. Don’t try shortcuts, don’t attempt to get-over, but instead know that there is a long-haul and be prepared to take on the challenge. Know that the winners overcome those challenges and the slackers or the losers never quite meet the various thresholds of accomplishment. Indeed, you were born to survive; just as your cuts heal and as day turns to night there is a natural order of things.

So too were you designed to learn and grow and excel and achieve and prosper. You need to know this in your heart of hearts, with no doubt in your mind whatsoever.

And that may include a lot of practice to assume the state of mind that it takes to walk that walk. But know that the walk is there for you to assume. It’s a walk that many successful people have taken and have talked about and have recorded. It is a walk that I have taken. That walk is also there for you to take. But you must decide in your mind that you will take it. You must follow the steps that everyone else has followed. That starts with mastering your craft, whatever it is; whether it be plumbing, carpentry, fashion, or bookwriting. Master your craft and take the steps that are necessary for you to put your plan into action. What steps am I talking about? I’m talking about apprenticeship. I’m talking about study. I’m talking about work ethic and practice and routine. And along with putting your plan into action comes goal setting and goal achievement on low and high levels. If you plan to be a success, then you better know what your day is supposed to be like before you step into it. In fact you better know what your week is supposed to be like and your month. Your yearly outcome should reflect your monthly and your daily agendas. Therein lies your goal achievement! Year after year after year of goal achievements lead to your ultimate purpose and ultimate achievement and a life of prosperity. And so, it is not a miracle to achieve greatness. It simply requires you to follow the instructions. Follow the blueprint that has worked over and over again for every successful individual.

No, success does not mean more money. Success does not mean more toys, a big house, or who you know. Success is simply you understanding and realizing what you were brought here to achieve. And once you’ve realized it and understood it and walked in those shoes you are a success.

This commentary started out as a simple one paragraph uplift, “Uplift,” and turned into a damned speech! I hope you make the best of it, with love #Relentless

sport_112cOne of our greatest realities is that we have the power to create our future. If we want to think greater thoughts we are able to do so. If we want to eat more nutritious foods, we are able to do so. If we want to have stronger bodies we are able to achieve them. All of this can take place by simply putting our minds to the task. Mental strength is an ability that we all have access to; we simply need to open the door And pursue it. Everyone comes equipped with mental strength, the ability to think positively, and most of us are equipped with the ability to experience mind over matter.
Today, your mission is to decide in your mind that you will achieve your daily goal. You know that your daily goals lead up to your weekly goals and in order for you to realize your weekly goals you must achieve each daily goal. Every day is a means to your end goal, and all of our goals are part of our overall purpose. Just as brushing our teeth has a purpose such as fresh breath and healthy hygiene, so too is the routine of fitness important. If we understand that this lifestyle of mental and physical fitness is meant to help us sustain longevity of life and necessary physical and mental energy, then every daily goal will be an essential one
